Great Lakes Fish Tugs On Lake Michigan.

We approach the gillnetter Betty. These commercial fish producers net Whitefish for sale to markets both locally and regionally.

These fish tugs are of a unique design. They can only be seen in the upper Great Lakes region. The main areas they used are on Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. Lake Huron uses this style too at least in part of their fleet. app.php/gallery

The winds during the Winter are gale or storm force much of the time on the Great Lakes.

The Oliver H Smith enters Algoma,Wi. Algoma was once a thriving commercial fishing port. Today there is no longer a fleet of fishing vessels.

The fish tug Apache and Ranger at the breakwall of the Bailey's Harbor Yacht Club in 1979. The Great Lakes once had a extensive fleet of commercial fishing vessels. As of recent years they are almost non-existant. app.php/gallery

We pulled up to the LaFonds (Andy Sr and Andy Jr) It was a calm and beautiful morning, I got a bunch of shots of them lifting Whitefish. I also got a lot of really good video. I'll post some of the video and in the nexy day or so.
